About

Will is a potter who sometimes moonlights as a whittler and stone carver. He shares a studio space in Starflower Studios with several other hardworking artists. Ceramics is his third career, after teaching history and librarianship. He has participated in the Cohorts.Art mentorship program and is an active member and former board member of WACK (Whatcom Artists of Clay and Kiln).

Artist Statement

Using subtractive handbuilding and throwing/altering techniques, I make softly geological vessels and sculptures inspired by close observation of fossils, archaeological objects, and the forested landscape of the coastal Pacific Northwest. I use my pots to explore how we construct our own material history through the objects we see and touch daily, excavating a home for ourselves in a world that doesn’t always welcome us. I finished my pots in wood, soda, and high-fire electric kilns to develop layered surfaces using texture, color, and ash.

Custom Orders & Commissions

I accept custom orders for Judaica and wooden spoons, and other pots within my usual scope of work on a limited basis. Please reach out to my gallery representation, Good Earth Pottery, to start the process.
